      SANTA MARGARITA WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION BY-LAWS    
      FOUNDED 1967    
         
      ARTICLE I:  NAME    
      The name of this organization shall be Santa Margarita Women's Golf Association. This organization will be referred to as SMWGA    
      in these Bylaws.    
  HOME   ARTICLE II:  PURPOSE    
      The purpose of SMWGA is to promote good fellowship among women members who belong to an organized golf group for     
  MEMBER CLUBS   women only.  Each member club must lie in close proximity to the original Santa Margarita land grant.  The organization will aim     
      toward the best golf etiquette, proper golf attire and a code of ethics acceptable to the United States Golf Association.  The business    
  CALENDAR   of this organization will not be carried on for profit.    
      ARTICLE III:  ELIGIBILITY    
  FIELD DAYS   Subject to the discretion of the Board of Directors, any golf club supporting a women's golf club whose play is governed by USGA    
      rules will be eligible to apply for membership in SMWGA.  The maximum number of member clubs is to be limited to eleven (11).    
  OFFICERS &   Each member club will:    
     DIRECTORS   club shall:    
      1.  Support and maintain a golf course of at least 18 holes.    
  MEMBERSHIP   2.  Have facilities suitable and available for the events conducted by the SMWGA.    
      3.  Pay annual dues of $25.00 the first year of membership, and such subsequent annual dues as the SMWGA Board of Directors    
  TEAM   may prescribe.    
      4.  Charge minimal greens fees for field days.     
  BYLAWS &   5.  Have a women's golf club duly organized with its own set of bylaws.  A current copy of each club's bylaws will be held in the     
  STANDING RULES   records of the SMWGA Parliamentarian.    
      6.  Field a team for interclub play, which will be governed by Team Play Rules.    
  MINUTES   ARTICLE IV:  INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP    
      Any woman in good standing in a member club, 18 years of age or older, and with an index that does not exceed the maximum index    
      allowed by USGA (see Standing Rules) will be eligible for membership upon payment of annual dues as the SMWGA Board of Directors    
      may prescribe. Continuous payment of membership dues will maintain a member's eligibility, even if that member's index exceeds USGA     
      maximum.  There will be no refunds of dues    
      ARTICLE V:  GOVERNING BODY    
      1.  The Governing Body of this organization will be vested in an SMWGA Board of Directors consisting of two (2) active members from    
      each representative club, to serve a four (4) year term.  A SMWGA representative may serve more than four (4) consecutive years if    
      she so desires.      
      2.  No elected officers may hold the same office for more than four (4) consecutive years, with the exception of the President, the First    
      Vice President, and the Second Vice President.  These positions will be held for one (1) year only, and will be rotated among the     
      member clubs.    
      3.  The President will have been a member of the Board for at least one (1) year immediately preceding her term in office.    
      4.  The member clubs shall select two (2) representatives, whose terms shall begin in January, to serve on the SMWGA Board of     
      Directors.  Each representative will be entitled to one (1) vote.    
      5.  A quorum shall consist of at least 50% of the members of the Board of Directors.    
      6.  No later than September 15 of each year, the President will appoint a Nominating Committee.    
          A.  This committee will be composed of one representative from each member club.    
          B.  This committee will present the slate of officers to the Board of Directors for approval at the October board meeting and will inform    
      all clubs of the slate of officers before October 31.    
          C.  The new governing board is installed at the first Board of Directors meting of the calendar year and introduced at the annual meeting    
      held on the first field day of the calendar year.
